What I appreciate most is Kam Lai’s “Story Integration + Learning through Play” curriculum. Children learn happily and grasp and understand knowledge easily, supporting balanced development of body and mind. The school decorates each month’s themed party with great care so the children feel the joy and meaning — it is the activity 紫柔 looks forward to most. Beyond textbook knowledge, Kam Lai has helped 紫柔 become a caring and proactive daughter: in K1 she learned to tidy her toys, in K2 she began helping with housework, and now in K3, when I was ill once, she brought me water and medicine. When I asked why, she simply said, “Because my teacher taught me.” Seeing how 紫柔 has grown, I am very grateful and reassured — thanks to the teachers.

樂琰 joined in K2. On his first day he saw a classmate crying and told him, “Don’t cry, school finishes soon — you’ll see your mum in an hour.” 樂琰 was happy from the moment he arrived at Kam Lai; every day after school he walks out hand in hand with a big group of classmates, and seeing him so happy to go to school is a great comfort. He shares every detail of his day when he gets home and sings non-stop — we know he truly loves it here.

This was a very special year. As COVID-19 hit Hong Kong and cases surged, the Government took the unprecedented step of suspending face-to-face classes in all schools and moving teaching online, so K1 interview preparations by families and schools alike had to start again. Fortunately Kam Lai’s IT was well prepared, with clear instructions and ample support, and the ZOOM interview went smoothly. The teachers also thoughtfully arranged for our twin girls to be interviewed in the same session, greatly easing the burden on us and the children. Soon after term began, classes moved online again because of the pandemic, and the teachers prepared rich and engaging online resources and activities so learning truly continued. When classes resumed, our twins settled back into the curriculum smoothly instead of idling at home.
