Heritage, Innovation, Excellence
I believe every young child is precious and unique. Teachers therefore need love, patience and respect to “teach according to each child’s aptitude”, turning a child’s “limited” learning into “limitless” possibilities and letting each child’s talents flourish. I will carry forward Kam Lai’s fine culture and lead all our staff to learn openly from, and integrate, the world’s leading early-childhood education theory and research, then innovate to build and develop a curriculum model suited to Hong Kong — always pursuing excellence.

1. Moral education
Filial piety comes first among all virtues, and character comes first in education. For children aged two and a half to six, developing manners and character matters more than acquiring knowledge and skills: once habits form they are hard to change and shape a child’s whole life, whereas knowledge and skills can be learned, absorbed and updated at any time. Guided by the Buddha’s teaching and the spirit of our school motto, “明智顯悲” (wisdom and compassion), we are committed to character and etiquette education. Our curriculum draws on the Central Institute of Educational Research’s materials on etiquette, character and quality education, covering basic manners, family etiquette, kindergarten etiquette, etiquette in public places and festival customs. Teachers design varied, engaging and sustained play activities — storytelling, role play, serving tea in gratitude, current-affairs discussion and a good-deeds reward scheme — and, together with families, gently nurture good character so that children apply what they learn in daily life. Children have responded very well, earning praise from parents and the community.
2. Stories + play
Children naturally love stories and games. Guided by our child-centred philosophy, our “Story Integration + Learning through Play” school-based curriculum integrates different learning areas and basic abilities so that children learn happily and develop in a balanced way, body and mind. In recent years a major renovation has continually improved our environment, creating a child-centred, play-based setting: besides varied free-choice learning corners in classrooms, we have added activity rooms such as the CPM toy library, a children’s cooking room, an art room, a library, a role-play room, a sensory exploration room, a music and movement room and a small stage — so children look forward to school every day and enjoy a happy kindergarten life!
